About Your Residential Bill

 

Customers of Decatur Utilities (DU) are billed once each month utility services used during a period of approximately 30 days. Dates of service are clearly displayed on the billing statement. View a sample bill HERE.

 

A late fee is assessed on any amount not paid by the due date shown on the bill. Customers are given 14 days past the due date to pay current charges. Accounts are subject to cut-off if not paid after 14 days.

 

Re-connection fees:

​

  • $80 (Normal business hours, M-F, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)

  • $125 (After hours, payable using our automated payment options or via phone at 256-552-1400)

 

SmartHub Online Account Access

To register for SmartHub, you will need your NEW Account Number and Mailing Zip Code from your July 2019 or later billing statement. For help finding that information please call customer service 256-552-1400 Opt. 4. One of our customer service representatives will be glad to provide that information and/or will help set up your SmartHub account.

Budget Billing

​

Budget Billing is DU’s levelized payment program that averages your monthly bills based on the previous 12 months’ usage. You must be on the DU system for 12 consecutive months. Customers must have current bank draft agreement to be eligible for Budget Billing. Download form HERE and return to our  Customer Service Department.

Bank Draft

​

Bank Draft is the easiest way to pay your DU bill! Sign up for Bank Draft and your bill amount is deducted from your checking or savings account on the due date each month. Download form HERE and return to our  Customer Service Department. 

 

Medical Priority List

​

If someone you know is on life support or another means of assistance which requires electricity to sustain life, please complete and return a Medical Hardship form so that we can place that residence on our Medical Priority List. In the event of an outage, power lines serving Medical Priority List members will be given top priority. A doctor must complete a portion of the form, and a new form should be re-submitted each year so that our records will be current.

 

Seasonal Sewer

 

During the summer months, beginning in April and ending with September billing, the waste water portion of your bill will be capped off based on your average usage in the winter months. DU takes into consideration that residential customers are watering flowers and lawns, filling swimming pools, washing automobiles, etc.
