Power Outages​
  • Call Decatur Utilities (DU) at 256-552-1400 Opt. 1 and follow the prompts to enter your phone number.

  • Log-in to your SmartHub account and report.

​

  • Steps to take:

    • Check your circuit breakers.

    • Verify visually if your meter or the line coming into your house is damaged.

    • Stay away from ALL downed power lines!

    • Turn off air conditioners/heat pumps and other large appliances​.

​

  • How DU restores power:

    • First, we identify the most likely cause of the outage​.

    • Priorities

      1. Restore hospitals, fire, police, public health and rescue facilities.

      2. Restore substations to get largest number of customers restored.

      3. Begin working distribution lines and circuits.

      4. Begin working on isolated pockets of customers and individual homes.

  • Special Medical Needs

    • Call 256-552-1400 Opt. 4 so we can note your account​.

    • However, you should have a backup plan in place in the event of a prolonged outage.

Natural Gas Leaks or Emergencies
  • Call 256-552-1400 Opt. 2 and follow the prompts to report your situation.

  • Call 911 if there is a fire or explosion.

Sanitary Sewer (Manhole) Overflows

    • A DU service technician will evaluate your situation and let you know what was found.​
